Mustang Brothers Crafts Stunning QA1-Equipped 1968 Ford Mustang
The Mustang Brothers, Cody & Preston Ingrassia, have carefully assembled the first of what will be a limited edition run of 1968 fastback Ford Mustangs that truly redefine what it means to blend vintage muscle with modern design and engineering. The car, known as “Outlaw” and unveiled to the world at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas last fall, is an artfully-crafted machine that retains the soul of a classic Mustang while incorporating the craftsmanship and performance expected in a modern automobile. Every decision in its creation was made with purpose, resulting in a car that stands apart from other custom Mustangs because it’s done right.
From the outside, the Outlaw is all about refinement — every body panel has been painstakingly aligned, with gaps and lines measured to ensure a flawless finish. The rear end is muscular, with a trunk lid that flows seamlessly into the quarter extensions. A perfectly fitted steel bumper sits below, giving the car a clean, purposeful look. It’s finished in a striking 2022 Ford Brittany Blue Metallic color, and matched with white Shelby stripes.
The LED sequential taillights frame the custom “Outlaw” badge. Even the NASCAR-style gas cap on the quarter panel feels like a thoughtful callback to the golden era of racing.
On the sides, Shelby GT500KR-inspired scoops hint at performance while adding a sense of motion to the car’s profile. Up front, the steel hood, built to accommodate the car’s potent drivetrain, is perfectly aligned, its crisp lines showcasing the craftsmanship involved. There are no fiberglass shortcuts, as everything is steel. LED headlights complete the picture, making night drives as practical as they are enjoyable.
Under the hood lies a supercharged 5.4-liter engine delivering 662 horsepower to the rear wheels. It’s paired with a six-speed manual transmission, giving the driver full control of its performance.
The suspension is equally impressive. The weld-in MTF C-6 independent front suspension setup features QA1 double-adjustable shocks, allowing for a ride that can be tailored to the driver’s preferences. The rear suspension, built around an MTF Watts Link system with QA1 double adjustable shocks and a strong 9-inch axle with a 3.55 gear ratio, keeps the car planted and predictable under hard acceleration. Wilwood 14-inch, four-piston disc brakes ensure stopping power matches the car’s performance. Classically-styled Forgeline wheels wrapped in Nitto rubber blend traditional looks with a modern feel. Even the parking brake is modernized with an electronic system, keeping the interior clean and functional.
Inside, the Mustang Brothers have taken the original 1968 Mustang design and enhanced it with modern technology in a way that feels natural. The gauges retain their classic styling but are backed by modern digital electronics for accuracy. Above, a panoramic glass roof floods the cabin with light while preserving the car’s classic roof spine. Modern air conditioning ensures the cabin stays comfortable, even under the expansive glass. But perhaps most noticeable is the conversion to a right-hand drive configuration, made possible through the use of a RetroRack steering rack sourced from Australia.
Details like the billet cranks, which operate the power windows, show how the Mustang Brothers balanced nostalgia with convenience and style. Custom seats were designed to hold the driver securely during spirited driving while remaining comfortable for long trips. Sleek, modern door panels complement the car’s overall aesthetic, and a unique tonneau cover adds a touch of roadster-inspired style. The center console, with its billet shifter and touchscreen stereo, add a balance of function and form. Cupholders, often overlooked in vintage cars, add a practical touch to the Outlaw’s interior.
A collector piece to some, the Outlaw is certainly a driver’s car, built to be enjoyed. Every aspect, from its precise bodywork to the drivetrain and suspension, reflects the Mustang Brothers’ commitment to building the ultimate first-gen Mustang. It respects its roots while embracing modern advancements, offering the best of both worlds.
The Mustang Brothers will build just seven "Outlaw" Mustangs, each with unique exterior and interior colors, but will share the same heart and meticulous craftsmanship.
